The Covid-19 pandemic has forced educational institutions and students to adhere to a virtual modality. It is a consequence of an emergency adaptation in answer to the decisions the government has taken in the fight against the pandemic. Although numerous studies have confirmed that this way of providing educational services is associated with positive learning outcomes orthat it does not reveal significant differences in relation to on-site in-person alternatives, none of the studies contemplated the possibility of a scenario where the students did not have the option to choose their own studying conditions whether it be a face-to-face environment, a virtual environment, or an amalgam of both. This is precisely the scenario studied by this research: the lack of options, with the aim of describing, through a methodology of qualitative approach and phenomenological design, the perceptions of academic performance and educational service modality of 12 students of a private university of Lima Metropolitana, who participated in the experience of a remote studying during the social isolation imposed for the first academic semester of 2020-I, after a long time of face-to-face education. The results obtained from their experiences have revealed their persistence in the pursuit of their goals and their ability to adapt to their circumstances, with physical consequences provoked due to the overcharge of academic and domestic work, as well as the psychological consequences such as loneliness, frustration, stress, anxiety, and depression that were present during that period. Those issues have not diminished their academic efficiency but have led the students to make additional efforts. Likewise, the virtual modality is presented with a valuable resource:recorded classes, but also with the absence and deficiency of many services between them to impart education. At the same time, it has been difficult for some teachers to adapt to the new normalcy imposed due to the pandemic and educational institutions were unable to provide equipment or installations to their students in that context. On the other hand, the students had to deal with an unexpected obstacle: remote communication, which has been uncomfortable. This whole situation allows to conclude that the educational service during the pandemic presents obstacles, but it is also true that these are identified, accepted, faced and overcome by the students.
