Universidad Marcelino Champagnat (1990-1995): continuidad y ruptura

Abstract

Desde hace ya un buen número de años, una significativa parte de nuestro quehacer ha estado ligada a la Universidad Marcelino Champagnat. Las circunstancias históricas nos permitieron vivir desde dentro todo el proceso de gestación de la institución universitaria. No debe extrañar, en consecuencia, que al concluir los estudios de doctorado se haya vigorizado en nosotros el interés por lo vivido. La posibilidad de realizar una investigación sobre la génesis de la Universidad, aparte de presentarse como audaz y estimulante, hacía referencia a una realidad muy querida por nosotros. El atractivo innegable del tema nos condujo a abordar, sin muchas vacilaciones, la labor de reconstruir la historia de la Universidad Marcelino Champagnat. La empresa, ya de por sí altamente gratificante, vio acrecentados sus estímulos al entrar en contacto con las personas que forjaron la institución universitaria marista y acercarnos con esmero a las fuentes bibliográficas.

Así, pues, un vasto conjunto de circunstancias contribuían a agudizar nuestro interés por el conocimiento de la nueva Universidad, conocimiento Éramos conscientes del peligro que se cernía sobre nuestra tarea: proyectar nuestros sentimientos sobre los hechos y que éstos se nos tornasen opacos o, peor aún, engañosos. Nos propusimos superar la tendencia a elaborar nuestra “historia” (story) sin referencia a las fuentes y evadir, dentro de lo posible, cualquier sesgo apologético que deformase lo que usualmente conocemos como “la realidad.” Nos alentaba, por otra parte, la pretensión de superar un enfoque meramente descriptivo, salpicado por un rico anecdotario de corte impresionista, por cuanto aspirábamos a ubicar la dinámica de la Universidad dentro del contexto del mundo académico y sociocultural de la época en la cual despliega su andadura. Se trataba de una ardua tarea que sentimos superaba por momentos la labor individual para reclamar a voces el siempre deseable trabajo en equipo.

Siempre cabe esperar de las instituciones que puedan dar cuenta de su propia identidad y su propio desenvolvimiento institucional. En ese sentido, nos encontramos aquí ante una situación problemática. Sin la contribución histórica, sin la perspectiva de la realidad como proceso (continuidad y cambio), y sin una articulación que viabilice la consideración genealógica de lo analizado, no es posible descubrir su naturaleza: si no sabemos cómo devino una cosa, no la conocemos cabalmente. Una investigación sobre los orígenes de la Universidad M. Champagnat puede constituir una apropiada base para la auto comprensión de la propia Universidad y para otras investigaciones ulteriores. Por otro lado hay que considerar que son escasos los estudios realizados sobre las universidades en nuestro medio, y la mayoría de ellos a impulsos de pretensiones apologéticas, destinados a exaltar lo que es estimado como favorable para las instituciones.

Nuestro trabajo de investigación se sitúa en un reducido sector del escenario socioeducativo peruano: la Universidad Marcelino Champagnat. Esta institución, creada por Ley N° 25180 en enero de 1990, surge –al menos teóricamente- con un proyecto fundacional específico que hunde sus raíces en la realidad socioeducativa del Perú, en el aporte específico de la universidad peruana y en una genuina tradición pedagógica marista. Abarcar un tiempo y un espacio reducidos brindaba la clara ventaja de permitirnos no perder de vista la proporción armónica que pide toda exposición histórica, pero propiciaba una prolijidad extrema que nos podía arrastrar a incurrir en el viejo anatema de “los árboles que no dejan ver el bosque”. Era preciso, sin embargo, afrontar el riesgo como un desafío más de los que toda tesis doctoral debe llevar implícitos. En resumen, nos formulamos la tarea de analizar y describir la trayectoria institucional de la Universidad Champagnat mediante la realización de un estudio histórico-crítico de los procesos de la fundación y los primeros años de esta institución.

For a good number of years, a significant part of our work has been linked to the Marcelino Champagnat University. Historical circumstances allowed us to experience the entire gestation process of the university from within. It should not be surprising, therefore, that at the end of the doctoral studies our interest in what has been lived has been invigorated. The possibility of conducting research on the genesis of the University, apart from presenting itself as daring and stimulating, made reference to a reality that is very dear to us. The undeniable appeal of the subject led us to tackle, without much hesitation, the task of reconstructing the history of the Marcelino Champagnat University. The company, already highly rewarding in itself, saw its stimuli increased by coming into contact with the people who forged the Marist university institution and carefully approaching the bibliographic sources. Thus, a vast set of circumstances contributed to sharpen our interest in the knowledge of the new University, knowledge We were aware of the danger that loomed over our task: projecting our feelings on the facts and that they became opaque or worse. still misleading. We set out to overcome the tendency to elaborate our "story" (story) without reference to the sources and to avoid, as far as possible, any apologetic bias that distorted what we usually know as "reality." On the other hand, we were encouraged by the pretense of overcoming a merely descriptive approach, dotted with a rich anecdote of an impressionist nature, since we aspired to place the dynamics of the University within the context of the academic and sociocultural world of the time in which it unfolds. his journey. It was an arduous task that we felt at times exceeded individual work to call out for the always desirable teamwork. Institutions can always be expected to account for their own identity and their own institutional development. In that sense, we are here before a problematic situation. Without the historical contribution, without the perspective of reality as a process (continuity and change), and without an articulation that enables the genealogical consideration of what is analyzed, it is not possible to discover its nature: if we do not know how a thing came to be, we do not know it fully. An investigation on the origins of the M. Champagnat University can constitute an appropriate basis for the self-understanding of the University itself and for further research. On the other hand, we must consider that the studies carried out on universities in our environment are scarce, and most of them are driven by apologetic pretensions, destined to exalt what is considered favorable for the institutions. Our research work is located in a small sector of the Peruvian socio-educational scene: the Marcelino Champagnat University. This institution, created by Law No. 25180 in January 1990, arises -at least theoretically- with a specific foundational project that has its roots in the socio-educational reality of Peru, in the specific contribution of the Peruvian university and in a genuine pedagogical tradition Marist. Covering a reduced time and space offered the clear advantage of allowing us not to lose sight of the harmonic proportion that every historical exposition demands, but it fostered an extreme neatness that could lead us to incur the old anathema of “the trees that do not allow us to see the Forest". It was necessary, however, to face the risk as one more challenge than any doctoral thesis must carry implicitly. In summary, we formulate the task of analyzing and describing the institutional trajectory of the Champagnat University by conducting a historical-critical study of the processes of the foundation and the early years of this institution.
