It is established, as a general objective, to relate reading comprehension and selfesteem in fourth grade students of three Private Educational Institutions of UGEL 01. For this a study is formulated with non-experimental, descriptive, correlational and cross-sectional design. The sample was selected in a census way so we worked with the entire student population (182 = 93 men and 89 women) enrolled in the 4th grade of primary school, who answered the Reading Comprehension Scale of Catalá, Catalá, Molina and Monclús (2001) and the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Scale (1967). Using Spearman's statistical test, it is inferred that the relationship between both variables is positive, of moderate magnitude (Rho =, 227) and significant when the dimension of organization and self-esteem is related, and the inferential dimension and self-esteem, while the relationship it is highly significant when the literal dimension and self-esteem are linked or in the two main variables of study (reading comprehension and self-esteem). In all cases, the results lead to accepting the research hypothesis and rejecting the null hypothesis. Based on the results, the respective proposals are formulated. It concludes, among other aspects, that the reading comprehension is related in a positive, direct and significant way with the self-esteem in the students of 4th grade of primary of the three evaluated private educational institutions.
