The construction sector is vital in the development and quality of life of the population, but it causes excessive consumption of natural resources. That is why an indicator is necessary that allows us to quantitatively evaluate sustainability at the time of construction. This research proposes to evaluate how sustainable the construction of adobe and brick houses is so that positive impacts are produced in the construction industry. The type of housing most built in the Popán area was identified in order to select a representative project. A structure will be designed, based on the representative project, with handmade bricks and adobe. The respective metrics and budgets will be prepared. The consumption of materials and energy that is generated, directly and indirectly, during the construction of a rural house will be calculated by applying an ecological footprint. Finally, it will be determined how sustainable the proposed buildings are and a comparison will be made between the two. As a result, it was obtained that the total footprint for the masonry house was 77,099 Hag and the contribution that has the greatest impact is the footprint related to construction materials. On the other hand, the total ecological footprint for the adobe house was 52.55 Hag.
