In recent years, research has shown that the use of cinema has multiple benefits for education. Additionally, due to the presence of technology and audiovisual media in the daily lives of students and teachers, cinema has become a resource with potential for use in educational centers. On the other hand, avoiding the use of cinema can lead to negative results. Although cinema for education has been employed in Peru, it has remained a topic of little research. The present study analyzes the perceptions of faculty and students at a private university in Lima, Peru, about cinema and its use as a teaching resource, in order to reveal the appropriate conditions for it to be applied effectively. Information was collected through a survey of a sample of 48 students and through group interviews with a total of 21 teachers from the Faculty of Education. The results show that teachers have the experience, disposition and minimum conditions in their environment to use the resource, in addition that they find in it various potential uses; at the same time, students are very familiar with the resource, they value its use for education and consider that it should be applied in university classes. It is concluded that the resource must be taken into account by institutions and they must provide facilities, mainly, for access and management of the resource, to enhance its use.
