The purpose of this research is to comprehend the subjective experiences of coming out in young bisexuals from the Lima Metropolitan area. A qualitative investigation was developed involving nine bisexual participants that range between 20 and 24 years of age, upon whom the technique of semi-structured interview was applied. The main findings indicate that the invisibilization of the bisexual community and the presence of homophobic and biphobic discourses in the different environments of the participants led them to internalize attitudes of rejection towards their own sexual orientation, thus hindering their process of self-denomination and self-acceptance. This, likewise, led them to experience fear at the idea of disclosing in at least one social circle. Disclosures with parents were the most complex to go through, and the responses obtained depended largely on intentionality, and ranged from reactions of acceptance to explicit rejection. Only a few participants chose to disclose to extended family members, sex-affective partners, and coworkers due to uncertainty of acceptance. Positive consequences of disclosures were a sense of freedom, gratitude, and greater openness about their orientations. Negatives, on the part of those who experienced rejection, were regret and mental health problems, such as suicidal ideation and attempts. Thus, it is concluded that the subjective experiences linked to the disclosure process are closely connected to the attitude of the social environment towards bisexuality and that the quality of life of bisexuals depends to a large extent on the perceived social support.
