The present research work includes the development of a fire alarm control unit for the improvement of the existing fire detection system in a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) bottling plant in order to prevent the possibility of fire, or reduce the magnitude of the damage. Firstly, a list of components of the existing fire protection system was made, determining that it does not comply with local regulations, represented by OSINERGMIN (Supervisory Body for Investment in Energy and Mining) and international regulations, led by the NFPA (National Association of Protection against the fire). Secondly, the design of the control cabinet for the detection, notification and extinction system (FACU) was analyzed and proposed, in such a way that it complies with what is required by regulations (Supreme Decree No. 043-2007-EM Safety Regulation for Hydrocarbon Activities, NFPA 72 National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code) in fire systems to obtain an efficient system that, when required in case of emergency, achieves an optimal response by notifying and activating in the appropriate time (70 seconds ), allowing the evacuation of plant personnel, avoiding human and economic losses. Thirdly, the critical areas of the plant were analyzed, where the greatest probability of fire danger is concentrated, in order to propose the best location of the detection instruments, as well as the appropriate locations of the activation equipment and alarm notification. Finally, the existing and projected fire-fighting system was analyzed to compare the improvement in the benefit of human and property protection that was obtained with the new fire-fighting system, represented by the response time of the detection, notification and system control cabinet. extinction.
