The purpose of this Sufficiency Work is developed to manage maintenance based on Planned Maintenance Optimization (PMO) of a vertical centrifugal pump to improve its reliability. The maintenance management problems of industries are related to the absence of effective planned maintenance, causing an increase in corrective maintenance work and therefore a decrease in the availability and reliability of the equipment. The absence of effective planned maintenance is evidenced mainly by the following reasons: corrective work increase, duplication of preventive tasks for identical failure modes; absence of tasks for new failure modes; wrong definition of the frequency and duration of scheduled tasks; incorrect assignment of the amount of human resources for the execution of scheduled tasks; limited number of equipment condition monitoring tasks; absence of standardized procedures and spare parts list for scheduled tasks; lack of staff training. In order to limit the problem of ineffective planned maintenance, the analysis is directed towards centrifugal pumps in the industrial sector. In this context, ineffective maintenance management through inadequate planned maintenance of a centrifugal pump causes a condition of uncertainty in the reliability of the pump. To improve this situation, maintenance management is proposed, based on the Planned Maintenance Optimization Methodology (PMO), executing seven of the nine steps recommended by the methodology and adding an improvement to step No. 2 – Failure mode analysis, referring to the definition of matrices of standardized failure modes by components with the purpose of facilitating the execution of the PMO methodology for a historical record of OMs greater than a period of 5 years. The analysis's results conclude in the proposal of a Planned Maintenance Optimized, consisting of 51 maintenance activities, highlighting the type of maintenance Combination of tasks: Condition Monitoring and Replacement, with a main execution frequency of 6 months and with the Workshop IFAF, main responsible for execution. Therefore, for a period of 24 months of operation, an improved simulated reliability of 95.31% is obtained. The recommendations mainly focus on executing the PMO methodology for equipment in operation to improve its reliability and work on the generation of correct historical failure data.
