In this thesis, the study of the addition of nickel to CeO2 was carried out based on the physicochemical properties and catalytic activities for the soot combustion. The NiCe mixed catalysts were prepared by solvent evaporation method in Ni:Ce molar ratios of 0.5:9.5, 1:9, 5:5, and 9:1, furthermore CeO2 and NiO catalysts were prepared like mass catalysts. The catalysts were characterized by N2 sorption (BET method), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetry (TGA), temperature programmed reduction with H2 (TPR-H2), Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The catalytic activity was evaluated by TGA under synthetic air in tight contact for soot combustion. The NixCe10-x catalysts showed low surface area (3 - 74 m2g-1) with different crystallite sizes to each NixCe10-x studied (9 - 22 nm). However, an increase in mesoporous pore volumen was obtained wich it s an important parameter for soot oxidation with air. Likewise, the X-ray diffractograms showed a partial introduction of Ni2+ ions to the CeO2 fluorite lattice. The Nio.5Ce9.5 catalyst calcined at 600°C had the best catalytic activity (T50 = 519.43 °C). The kinetics of soot oxidation was carried out through light off curves, where the activation energy (Ea) was determined and it was concluded that Nio.5Ce9.5(600) catalyst effectively improved the catalytic activity (Ea = 73 kJ mol-1) generating the elimination of soot at a lower temperature.
