This thesis work proposes the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane to obtain ethylene through catalysts based on metal oxides. The transformation of ethane to ethylene is a technological proposal to take advantage of the Natural Gas reserve, located in Cuzco, providing added value to the 10% ethane present in natural gas. For this purpose, this work has prepared cat¬alysts based on Ni-Me (Me = Fe, Co, Nb) oxides supported on y-Al2O3 by coprecipitation and hydrothermal methods for the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane. For both meth- ods, the precipitating agent was ammonia 1M, and urea, and the surface density (ds) was 15.6 atoms/nm2. After, these samples were calcined at 500 °C for 4h, a temperature rate of 5°C/min. For comparison, some massive samples were prepared by co-precipitation and hy¬drothermal synthesis. For both different series of catalysts were the same thermal treatment. In addition, these materials that its diffractograms showed phases corresponding to nickel(II) oxide and the support (y-Al2O3), and the crystallite size for each catalyst was modified of 16 to 60 nm. Furthermore, the majority of samples presented micro-mesoporous surface with high mesoporosity according to the N2 sorption isotherms. Also, it was done thermal treatment for determining the calcination of temperature that was reported at 500 °C. On the other hand, the TPR-H2 profiles of samples presented the reduced temperature greater than did NiO. Because it could be attributed the metal-support interaction. Besides observing the interaction between nickel(II) and oxygen (Ni-O) in spectra Raman, it showed slightly shift that favoured the formation of NiFe2O4 or NiAl2O4 specie. Additionally, for massive catalyst the Ni2p3/2 spectra showed slightly shift that allowed changing the chemical environment. The O1s spectra presented two types of oxygen species as electrophilic and nucleophilic, as well. However, the TPD-O2 profiles showed two kind of electrophilic oxygen specie as 7 and ó. Also, the 7 oxygen specie was related with the selectivity toward ethylene. The catalysts with 5%w/w of Fe, Co, and Nb showed high performance. Eventually, the samples properties provided ethane conversión of 26.1 to 39.7% at 450°C. In addition, the selectivity and yield toward ethylene were 70.8 to 78.9% and 24.2 a 28.6%, respectively. Consequently, one of the most catalyst was the NiCo-0.05/y-Al2O3 and NiNb-0.05/y-Al2O3 because it was higher ethane conversion and yield toward ethylene than did the counterparts. Despite of the NiO/y-Al2O3 sample presented a slightly increased of selectivity toward ethylene, the ki- netic study was done for NiCo-0.05/y-Al2O3 sample that fitted the Langmuir-Hinshelwood model with one site active.
