Abstract: La industria del cemento en Arequipa explota depósitos calcáreos pertenecientes a las secuencias calcáreas - silicoclásticas correspondientes al Grupo Yura. Los depósitos sedimentarios aparecen en una sucesión de estratos de calizas, areniscas, limolitas y estructuralmente deformados.
Las deformaciones hacen que el seguimiento lateral de los estratos de interés sea algo complejo; en ocasiones los estratos aparecen afectados y deformados por estructuras del tipo pliegues y discordancias; las fallas no son importantes en cuando a número, ni magnitud; solo hay algunas muy locales.
Se ha estudiado un sector en producción y otros dos en exploración; en los tres se presentan estructuras como pliegues anticlinales, sinclinales, slumps y discordancias angulares, que han tenido que ser adecuadamente reconocidas, haciendo la estratigrafía de detalle para ser debidamente cartografiados, determinar el comportamiento estructural y poder, con mayor precisión, calcular los volúmenes de recursos aplicando la metodología de las secciones geológicas.
En el Sector Sur se hallaron alrededor más de 217 millones de toneladas, en el Sector Sur fueron poco más de 126 millones es de toneladas y en el Sector Noroeste algo más de 90 millones de toneladas de calizas y en los tres sectores, con más del 80% de carbonatos de calcio, requeridos para la fabricación del cemento.
The cement industry in Arequipa exploits calcareous deposits belonging to the siliciclastic sequences corresponding to the Yura Group. The sedimentary deposits appear in a succession of strata of limestone, sandstone, siltstone and structurally deformed. The deformations make lateral tracking of the strata of interest somewhat complex; sometimes the strata appear affected by structures of the type folds and unconformities; the faults are not important in terms of number or magnitude; there are only some very local ones. A sector in production and another two in exploration have been studied; in the three sectors the structures appear as anticlinal folds, synclines, slumps and angular unconformities, which have had to be adequately recognized, making the detailed stratigraphy to be properly mapped, determine the structural behavior and be able, with greater precision, to calculate the volumes of resources applying the methodology of geological sections. In the South Sector, around more than 217 million tons were found, in the South Sector there were just over 126 million tons and in the Northwest Sector just over 90 million tons of limestone and in the three sectors, with more of 80% of calcium carbonates, required for the manufacture of cement.
