The electrical sizing of high and extra-high voltage electrical substations is typically analyzed for installation site heights less than or equal to 1000 meters above sea level, there are even tables of standardized technical characteristics of high voltage equipment for those heights. However, due to the topography of our country, there are electrical substations located at more than 1,000 meters above sea level, whether they belong to a transmission concessionaire or to a heavy-mining industry company; in this last one, the proximity between the electrical transformation substation and the mining load is highlighted. In this work, the electrical design of the expansion of the El Amigo 50 kV / 4.16 kV / 2.3 kV electrical substation, operated by COMPAÑÍA MINERA ARGENTUM S.A., located in the district of Morococha (Junín) and at an altitude above 4500 meters above sea level was developed; the design was based on the two international normative approaches (IEC and IEEE) to which the normative of our country refers (PR-20 of the COES and CNE- Suministro 2011), that is, the detection and analysis of the parameters that are sensitive to the variation of the height above sea level of the installation site was deepened. The height of the substation installation site in mention, directly influenced the selection of standard insulation levels, electrical distances, insulator chains and support insulators (post insulators), and phase conductors (busbars), without neglecting the selection of surge arresters, grounding system design and shielding calculation. The start of operations was carried out at the end of the first quarter of the year 2021.
