In hydraulic systems which had being employed for power transmission, the oil is the most valuable component due to transmit and convert mechanical energy to hydraulic energy. The operation of hydraulic systems implies the contamination and degradation of the oil, for that, it must be dialyzed, and the filters must be changed periodically. However, these maintenance activities could overrun maintenance costs if they aren’t carried out properly. The contamination of oil depends of the particular system, an inadequate filtration system leads to unscheduled shutdowns, that generate production loss and decrease of equipment availability. In order to improve hydraulic power unit (HPU) performance, the design of a secondary filtration system with automatic response and permanent monitoring of oil contamination is proposed. First, the historical data of the maintenance services and operational parameters are collected. Then, the design of a HPU with a secondary filtration system is proposed based on the operating characteristics collected previously. The software AutoCAD is used to schematize the philosophy of operation of the primary and secondary circuits. In the next step, a calculation memory is developed and the components for the autodialysing hydraulic unit are selected. In addition, the software SolidWorks is used to model the system proposed and the software TIA Portal is used to develop the philosophy of control and ladder program. Finally, the variation of polluting particles in oil and the percentage variation of availability is determined to prove the hypothesis.
