The general objective of the research work is to compare the economic values of CO2 sequestration between a eucalyptus plantation and an alder forest located in the district of Jircán, province of Huamalies, department of Huanuco. The approach is quantitative, descriptive scope and non-experimental design. The population was 300 eucalyptus trees and 254 alder trees, and the sample was 150 trees of each species. The method applied is non-destructive (indirect) through specific allometric equations to estimate the forest biomass of both species. The field work consisted of measuring the diameter at breast height (DBH) and total height of each tree. Subsequently, the biomass, carbon and CO2 sequestered were estimated using allometric equations and formulas recommended by the IPCC. Finally, the economic value of CO2 sequestration was calculated considering the CO2 prices established in Peru, China and the European Union (EU). As results, it was obtained that the CO2 sequestration per area of the eucalyptus was 685.47 tCO2/ha and of the alder, 72.57 tCO2/ha. Therefore, the eucalyptus plantation ($4,914.83/ha – price in Peru) obtained a higher economic value than the alder forest ($520.33/ha – price in Peru) for CO2 sequestration. The study will allow the peasant community of Jircan to know the economic value of CO2 sequestration from eucalyptus and alder in order to implement conservation and/or reforestation projects in the district through the financing of carbon credits with the support of the national, regional and local government.
