The current design of the cooling system in the Moyopama hydroelectric plant is an open circuit system that uses turbined water in order to absorb the heat that is produced by the heating of the equipment. This refrigeration system, despite the fact that it fulfills the function of maintaining the operation of the equipment in an adequate manner, transfers the water with impurities, which causes the filters to become clogged, causing monthly maintenance and work stoppages, which causing huge economic losses. In the present research work, a closed refrigeration cycle is proposed, in order to establish a refrigeration system that reduces the cost of maintenance and losses due to work stoppages. For the development, mathematical calculations and the computational tool called COMSOL Multiphysics have been used, which will allow an efficient design to be obtained, simulating the behavior of the heat exchanger under boundary conditions. The design consists of a 37 m long heat exchanger made of AISI 316 stainless steel with an external diameter of 154 mm and 2 mm thick, which will be positioned vertically, to avoid large structural stresses and deformations, which will be evaluated. under the von Mises failure criterion.
