Fuel is the second most important variable in the extraction cost matrix of the Tecnologica de Alimentos S.A. fishing company and represents 31% of financial costs. In 2021, a fleet consumption of 5.5 million gallons of diesel was reported. For this reason, it is important to monitor the fuel stored in the vessel's tanks that feed the propulsion engine and the auxiliary power generation engines. The inaccuracy in the stock report data and the non-disaggregation of the consumption for each engine resulted in erroneous calculations and reports with a high consumption deviation. An inefficient fleet behavior was identified in the return to port for the unloading of the raw material. The vessels sailed at maximum speed, which means greater fuel consumption, added to the massive arrival of vessels that generated more hours of waiting and originated anchovy biodegradation. To improve the reliability of the information taken from the ship, level sensors were installed in tanks and instruments in the fuel supply line of the marine engines. The information was thus taken, processed in the Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and then sent to land through the system of satellite transmission to have information in real-time without coverage problems on the high seas. With this data, the optimal navigation strategies and directives of the fleet were evaluated, then continued with the permanent monitoring of navigation behavior, even giving alerts for corrective actions in case of non-compliance. These improvements made it possible to achieve fuel savings of $182,000 in the North Central fishing season 2022-II (April-July), and annual savings of $400,000 are projected. In addition, more precise information on stock and consumption was obtained, which allowed the preparation of more reliable reports.
