This work proposes a new lossy multispectral satellite image compression method, which includes blue, green, red and near infrared wavelengths, focused on increasing image quality based on the amount of data received. This method was considered due to the low transmission rate and the short duration of the time window during which an earth station with a small satellite is in line of sight. A database of test images of the PeruSat-1 and Landsat 8 satellites was created in order to have different spatial resolutions. Comparisons were made with the SPIHT, EZW and STW methods. Presenting the proposed method a better efficiency evaluated based on the PSNR (peak signal to noise ratio) and SSIM (structural similarity index).
