This research work entitled “Improvement of the Culture and Behaviour of Workers towards Safety, to Reduce Accidents at Work in a Mining Company” aims to establish that the continuous improvement of the culture and behaviour of workers with respect to safety, influences the reduction and saving of expenses for accidents at work, achieving a good management of occupational safety and health in the Company. Specialized IESA Unit Andaychagua. In the year 2019 to August there were 3 incapacitating and 4 minor accidents, which meant a risk in meeting the objectives of Occupational Safety and Health management. In all accident investigations, sub-standard acts were found as root causes, which were decisive in triggering the occurrence of the accident; In addition, an analysis of the causes of unsafe behaviours and behavioural barriers was carried out using safe behaviour audit formats, showing that most risky behaviours are by personal choice; the worker has the conditions and knowledge, but decides to engage in risky behaviour; For this reason, an action plan is being implemented, drawing up a programme to improve safety culture and behaviour with the aim of motivating employees to want to be safe, to change risky behaviour to insurance and to strengthen safe behaviour. The background and consequences of behavioural barriers were identified; Then carry out leadership and motivation activities, such as trainings, empowerment, workshops, sketch, campaigns, coaching, awards, recognitions, etc. This research thesis has a cross-sectional design, not experimental because it has a fixed period of time, and the variables can be measured and compared; It is of the application type, because it uses the knowledge of three-dimensional theory and the seven principles of the SBC; It is descriptive, correlational, because it describes the behaviour of the population and seeks to establish the degree of relationship between unsafe behaviour and the occurrence of accidents. The instrument used to collect the information is the Safe Behaviour Audit formats and these are measured through the Safe and Unsafe Behaviour Index. In the development of the thesis, the senior managers of the Andaychagua unit, the area heads, and the constant participation of the workers with vertical and two-way communication, generating a well-being and a safe atmosphere at work. Workers felt empowered to prioritize safety, performing pairs for sub-standard conditions, which were immediately corrected and those that could not be identified by the multidisciplinary committee for research and resolution. After having the proactive and reactive indicators, a comparison of the pre-programme and post-programme was made. Achieving to change 243 unsafe behaviors to safe and increasing the safe behavior index by 2.72%, the hypothesis test was performed using Spearman Correlation in SPSS, rejecting the null hypothesis and accepting the hypothesis. Improving occupational safety and health management at work; Achieving an annual accident rate of 0. 56, which is below one, which is the target set for 2019.
