Based on various geological, macroscopic, microscopic, physical, and chemical studies, this research aims to characterize and evaluate the travertines of two regions of the Central Andes of Peru located between the towns of Chacapalpa-Curicaca and Yanacancha-Antapongo, to be used as ornamental rock. In the Chacapalpa - Curicaca area, the calcareous rocks of the Condorsinga Formation and the conglomerates, travertines and breccias of the Quaternary are important. In the Yanacancha - Antapongo area, the limestone formations of Condorsinga, Chunumayo, Chulec, Pariatambo and Jumasha are of great importance. The volcanic phase is made up of the Astobamba volcanics of the Ingahuasi Formation. The travertines belong to the Ingahuasi Formation, both assigned to the Pliocene. With the microscopic studies carried out on the samples of ornamental carbonate rocks, it was determined that they meet the specifications required according to the ASTM standards, in their physicochemical properties, varied bright colors, cohesion, texture, durability index, porosity and high resistance to corrosion. compression, which make it possible to obtain blocks of commercial importance. The tests and analyzes were carried out in the laboratories of the National University of Engineering, Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and Ing. Pedro Gagliuffi Espinoza. With the information obtained from geological mapping and diamond drilling, it was possible to estimate important measured resources and potential travertine resources for the two areas studied. Due to the good quality obtained for the travertines evaluated in the Chacapalpa - Curicaca and Yanacancha - Antapongo zones of the Central Region of Peru, it is suggested: Give greater importance to the investigation of igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks with ornamental properties, which exist in great variety in our territory, to generate important business opportunities at a national and international level. Standardize the technical and scientific parameters for the geo-evaluation characterization of ornamental rocks, regulating the technical standards to improve their industrial use in our country. The organization of communal enterprises mainly with private investment, for the consequent generation of labor and income for their workers and for the state.
