In the thesis entitled “IMPLEMENTATION OF A GEOTECHNICAL MANAGEMENT TO REDUCE DAMAGE BY BLASTING ON SLOPES OF AN OPEN PIT MINE - CERRO CORONA CASE PERIOD 2017-2022“, an investigation is developed on the impact of blasting on final slopes of a mine open pit and adequate geotechnical management to reduce the damage caused by blasting. The objective is to implement a geotechnical management that: determines the damage that is generated in the final slopes, optimizes the slope design changes that improve the recovery of the ore tonnage, establishes controls in the blasting design, reduces the occurrence of geotechnical events and improve safe working conditions for personnel and equipment. The proposed geotechnical management consists of quantifying the potentially unstable conditions of the slopes and the deviations in the geometry of the slope achieved with respect to the design slope; to then, through an iterative process, implement improvements in the controlled blasting design to reduce blast damage on final slopes. The care of final slopes is an activity of priority interest for mining companies, because interruptions due to geotechnical risks are avoided and costs associated with slope instability are saved; Likewise, applying the necessary controls to achieve phase slopes with controlled geotechnical risks is a mandatory requirement by the competent authority. This work presents criteria to evaluate slope conditions and identify critical factors; as well as establishing controls that improve the stability conditions of the final slopes. The implementation of geotechnical management for the care of final slopes has allowed improving the performance of the slopes at the end of the Tagus, which is demonstrated by the increase in cells with good performance (green and blue conditions) from 71% to 93. % While the cells with poor performance (yellow and red condition) were reduced from 29% to 7%. The contribution of this research is to contribute to the continuous improvement in the performance of the final slopes in open pit mining operations.
