This report carries out about the processes of corrective maintenance of a 2500HP synchronous motor that presented problems at its start, from the previous information, through the evaluation, diagnosis, repair as such, including the electrical tests carried out, and finally commissioning. The considerations to be taken into account for the correct material to be used in the damping winding are also explained. It has been divided in 4 chapters: In Chapter I the introduction is made, that is to say, the situation, the importance of electric motors in the modern world and the scope are mentioned in a general way. In Chapter II, it is provided, the theoretical and conceptual basis that was used to solve the motor’s problem is provided, as well as to prevent said problem from happening again. General information on the types of motors is provided, as well as their classification, the synchronous motor is addressed, giving special emphasis to its starting. Finally, brief information is provided on the typical tests that are carried out on the motor in a repair shop. In Chapter III, the characteristics of the synchronous motor with problems are detailed, the background of the motor is given, then it focuses on finding the cause of the problem, going through an exhaustive evaluation of each component and comparing the characteristics of said motor with an operating motor of the same characteristics, once given with the respective failure, culminates in the resolution of their problems. In chapter IV it is verified in the facilities of nominal operation of the motor (in the cement factory) if the repair was right.
