In the investigation, the addition of recycled synthetic fibers was studied in a low plasticity clay soil extracted in the Urb. La Rinconada del Norte located in the district of Puente Piedra, Lima, height of the intersection Av. Guardia Civil and the Panamericana Norte, as an alternative solution to reinforce and improve the resistance parameters of clay soil with low plasticity. Clay soils generally have low shear strength and high compressibility, which is a problem for their use as foundation soil or as a construction material. The physical characterization of the extracted control sample was carried out to classify the type of soil and then the modified proctor test to obtain its maximum dry density and optimum moisture content. The results of maximum dry density and optimum moisture content obtained from the modified proctor test were used as initial data for the unconfined compression and CBR tests to determine its shear strength and soil bearing capacity. Then, 0.5%, 1% and 1.5% of recycled synthetic fibers of 3cm and 6cm lengths were incorporated into the natural soil, to carry out the modified proctor tests and obtain the maximum dry density and optimum moisture content of the different combinations of soil with recycled synthetic fiber The results obtained serve as initial data to carry out the unconfined compression and CBR tests, in order to evaluate the performance of the shear strength and support capacity of the samples that were made with different percentages and lengths of recycled synthetic fibers. The results obtained from the physical characterization determined that the extracted sample is a clayey soil with low plasticity, which is classified as CL according to the SUCS system or a clayey soil from poor to fair index 5, A-6 according to the AASHTO classification. From the results of the CBR test at 95% of the MDS, it was found that the addition of synthetic fibers improved the bearing capacity of the soil up to 20.2%, which represents an increase of 60.32% of the capacity of the soil without reinforcement. Said result is obtained from the combination of the soil with synthetic fibers that obtained the highest CBR, which occurs for the combination of clay soil with 1% recycled synthetic fibers of length 6 cm. On the other hand, the results of the unconfined compression test show that the incorporation of synthetic fibers improves shear strength up to 493.74 Kpa, which represents an increase of 126.25% of the capacity of the soil without reinforcement. Said result is obtained from the combination of the soil with synthetic fibers that obtained the highest shear capacity value and this occurs for the combination of clay soil with 1% recycled synthetic fibers of 3 cm in length. From the results of the tests carried out, it is concluded that 1% is the best optimal dosage of recycled synthetic fibers that should be added to the clay soil to improve the resistance parameters of the clay soil. In addition, for said optimal dosage, it was concluded that when the recycled synthetic fiber is 3 cm long, it improves the shear strength of the unreinforced clay soil and when the recycled synthetic fiber is 6 cm long, it improves the support capacity of the clay soil without beef up. Therefore, it is concluded that reinforced clay soil with an optimal dosage of 1% recycled synthetic fibers can be used on a large scale as an alternative solution for soil improvement.
