This research work develops the modeling of the operation of combined cycle power generation plants to improve energy efficiency in their operation at partial loads, by representing the correlations that govern the power distribution of the turbines that work together as a combined cycle based on the individual fuel consumption patterns of each gas turbine to optimize the overall efficiency of the plant. For the modeling, a control volume is established that defines the limits of the electrical power generation system to be represented on which the behavior of fuel consumption is approximated as a function of the generation power for each of the elements. Due to each generation turbine has a particular state, determined by its design characteristics, operation hours according to the dispatch of the system, preventive and corrective maintenance carried out, individual aging will be determined by the efficiency of each unit, that is, by the ability to transform the heat energy stored in the fuel into electrical energy. Thus, the total fuel consumption of the combined cycle plant is represented as an optimization problem based on the correlations of the power distribution of the components and the individual fuel consumption of each gas turbine. With the load optimization process of each turbine, it is determined that with the use of the model it is possible to reduce the total fuel consumption of the combined cycle. This new redistribution of optimized powers has an impact on reducing the consumption of fossil fuel natural gas, which comes from a non-renewable source, increasing the efficiency of the plant and reducing greenhouse gas emissions such as CO2 which contributes positively in the context of energy transformation towards the deceleration of global warming with the use of more efficient processes to supply the demand for electrical energy.
