In this work of professional sufficiency, an investigation is carried out about indirect inspection techniques established in the standard practice ANSI / NACE SP0502-2010: “Pipeline External Corrosion Direct Assessment Methodology“, which are used to evaluate the state of the coating in steel pipes buried used in the transport of hydrocarbons, in order to prevent the leakage of fuels due to the effects of external corrosion. In the first instance, an explanation of corrosion and how it occurs in buried steel pipes is made. It also explains important aspects such as pipeline integrity, coatings and their use to avoid the presence of external corrosion and the application of cathodic protection to reduce the wear of the pipeline walls and thus avoid fuel leakages. Then we proceed to detail the External Corrosion Direct Assesment (ECDA) methodology, which is only applicable to steel pipes buried in transport systems on shore (on shore). A study of indirect inspection electromagnetic techniques is developed, describing the procedures and the casuistry in which each of these applies. Emphasis is placed on two techniques: Alternating Current Voltage Gradient (ACVG) and Alternating Current-Current Attenuation (ACCA), which represent an important alternative to other techniques detailed in ECDA methodology.
