The present thesis called “Analysis of the Economic Model of Public Transport Bus Line Systems in the City of Lima“ had as its main objective an analysis of the behavior of demand and economic variables around the supply of transport of different routes of Metropolitan Lima and Callao, with the purpose of proposing reform guidelines for the bus line system, given that public transport constitutes a pillar in the mobility and development of the city. For this, the work methodology adopted was applied research, with a quantitative approach and a non-experimental, descriptive and cross-sectional design. The tools used for data collection were the survey, interview and observation. The diagnosis and assessment of the field of study was divided into three areas: demand, supply and transport infrastructure. The first with the purpose of obtaining mobility characteristics of public transport users, the second with the purpose of obtaining the economic-financial models of the service operators and the third, with the purpose of identifying the infrastructure needs to improve the operational performance of the system. From the analysis of variables, it was obtained that: The Social Value of Travel Time (VST) according to transport mode is equivalent to S/. 8.29 for combi users; S/.9.54 for minibus users and S/.12.21 for bus users.; and in general, the weighted VST for bus line systems is equivalent to S/.10.56. The cost of operation per kilometer traveled depends on the cost structure of each company, in this research it ranges from 2 to 4 soles. The economic-financial evaluation of the system yields profitability values between 10% and 13% for lines with bus-type vehicles, 13% and 20% for commission agents, and 4% to 14% for affiliates in lines with minibus and combi-type vehicles, when the Financing is with own funds. In terms of infrastructure, it is necessary to improve and/or adapt the design of road sections and traffic control systems, since reducing travel times implies lower operating costs and lower general prices. Based on this, a series of guidelines and actions to be implemented in the short, medium and long term are proposed for a public transport reform focused on bus line systems.
