Industrial instrumentation is a discipline that encompasses both measurement elements and final control elements in the industrial field. It includes the knowledge of the different operating principles of the instruments, their correct installation, configuration, calibration and maintenance. A large number of sensors and actuators are used in asphalt plants, generating relatively complex instrumentation. In the case of the present work, an automated gravimetric type hot asphalt plant (batch plant) is used for the execution of the repair and reconstruction project of the asphalt layer on the Panamericana Norte and Sur highways in Metropolitan Lima. To achieve the proposed production goals, it is necessary to raise the level of reliability of the plant used, since it shows a history of important failures in its instrumentation. To improve the reliability of the instrumentation, it is proposed to optimize the maintenance strategy using the RCM methodology, in addition to the use of tools and simulations to perform a statistical analysis of the failure times and repair times in the instrumentation equipment. The processes where the instrumentation equipments act as well as their characteristics are detailed; Also the procedures, standards, norms and considerations to be followed to determine the maintenance actions to be carried out, the execution frequencies and the intervention costs resulting from the optimized maintenance strategy.
