This research work is based on the study of reclaimed water management and the design of pumping stations to recirculate reclaimed water from the thickened tailings deposit to the concentrator plant of a mining company. The research focuses on water consumption in mining processes to reduce freshwater consumption and reduce its environmental impact without affecting its efficiency. An important part is the water balance study that allows estimating losses and gains depending on the stage of the mining processes. In addition, the problematic reality of water in mining is described. The analysis includes the estimation of flow rates and annual available volumes of reclaimed water formed inside the thickened tailings deposit to recirculate through a pumping system to the concentrator plant, the formation of reclaimed water is the result of the flow of water discharged with the tailings, runoff on natural ground surfaces, runoff on the tailings surface, seepage, precipitation, and evaporation. Likewise, in the development of the research, the pumping stations (floating station, booster stations and gravity conveyance) are designed. To establish an efficient, reliable, and highly available pumping station design, it was necessary to correctly size, locate and specify the equipment comprising the pumping stations, impulsion lines and gravity conveyance lines from a technical and economic point of view. Based on the review of the pumped flow of water recovered from the tailings deposit to the concentrator plant and the flow of freshwater consumption delivered by the mining company with the collection of information. The results are analyzed objectively, contrasting the results of the research with the hypothesis formulated and assigning the validation or not of the same. Finally, the results of the research are discussed for the design of the pumping system whose methodology and development will be applied to change the problematic of the current situation.
