This research constitutes the design of a sludge filtration system in order to increase production in a dicalcium phosphate plant. Dicalcium phosphate is a vitamin supplement for animal consumption and its production generates an effluent or by-product called dicalcium phosphate sludge. Dicalcium phosphate sludge and its industrial processing are integrated into the treatment of industrial wastewater and environmental regulations define it as a polluting element. Therefore, an extensive review has been prepared on the subject and its impact on the environment in accordance with current Peruvian legislation. The design of the filtration system is based on the physical and chemical characteristics of the sludge, the volume of sludge generated per day of processing, the amount of solids obtained as filter cake and its final disposal in an authorized landfill. An analysis is also carried out on the design of the filtration plant and the selection of the most suitable equipment for the processing of industrial sludge. The study covers the description of the various industrial filtration systems, the specific applications of each type analyzed of filter and their operating characteristics. The concept of residual sludge filtration is similar in most industrial and mining processes; however, its application in each particular case requires an analysis of the characteristics of the product to filtered, an analysis of the filtered product, the technical and economic evaluation of the filtration process and the cost/benefit of the investment to execute.
