The SE El Hierro feeds the new Beneficio plant of the Shougang mining company (56MW) and the Shouxin mining company (19MW). When scheduled maintenance is carried out on SEIN equipment in the area of influence of SE Hierro, according to the COES program, free users (who are powered by the Marcona bus) must put into operation capacitor banks so that the voltage in the 220kV Marcona bus is within the admissible parameters. Since the capacitor banks in SE Hierro are not operational, the COES requests Shougang to reduce their load in SE El Hierro, which greatly impairs its mineral production. Using the Digsilent software, the steady-state and contingency load flow simulations were performed to evaluate the behavior of the capacitor banks of the SE Hierro, it was simulated with banks and without capacitor banks. In addition, the short c ircuit calculation was carried out and an analysis of the voltage and current harmonics was also made to verify their behavior in the network when the capacitor banks enter. It was found that, in the face of some contingency in the SEIN, the inoperability of the capacitor banks forces the new Plant to reduce its load to less than half and even to disconnect the facilities. It was verified that by putting the capacitor banks into operation, when contingencies arise, the plant can operate at full load.
