In this work, the energy evaluation of a typical combined cycle thermoelectric plant of the Peruvian interconnected system is carried out, by means of exergetic and exergoeconomic approach developed with three calculation tools, to improve it’s diagnosis conducive to optimizing its operational performance. The advantages that are pursued are to evaluate in a finer way the irreversibility and exergetic efficiencies associated to the exergoeconomic costs, for each component and as a whole to the real operating conditions of the place. The process begins with the on-line energy audit of the plant for a certain operating load, then the exergy balance, exergy and exergoeconomic costs corresponding to each unit and integral thermal process of the plant is carried out. For the calculation, a structured program is designed in Ms Excel, then in EES (Engineering Equation Solver) and finally with GT PRO from Thermoflow, thus forming a comparative process of better approach and provision, to be integrated into the operating control system of the plant. As base results, the excess of irreversibility in the combustion chamber and in the recovery boiler indicative of excessive energy wastage, as well as the higher exergoeconomic unit cooling costs in the aero condenser indicative of overconsumption of the fans, suggest applying priority arrangements to increase the plant operating performance. Likewise, the development of a systematic comparative calculation procedure in Ms Excel, EES and GT PRO, allowed to refine the margins of error in the energy calculation in accordance with its scope and the assumptions adopted for the operating condition of the plant.
