Currently, the building code-based approach to earthquake-resistant design implies following a series of procedures and recommendations, which according to past experiences will result in an ideal building that meets the needs of society. However, this is a false expectation of having an acceptable behavior of a building during an earthquake, because this normative design approach does not require that the final design be evaluated to obtain its seismic performance. Without this, the seismic behavior and performance measures will be uncertain, even when certain seismic standards codes ensure at least a level of safety of life, this is not demonstrated, much less quantified, consequently, an unreliable design would be had. Therefore, the solution to this need is the use of a performance-based approach to seismic evaluation, such as that proposed by FEMA P-58, which provides us with detailed information on what is likely to happen to a new or existing building during an earthquake and the resulting future consequences. This information allows owners to understand explicitly (Costs, Times and Victims) what could happen and thus be able to take the necessary preventive actions on these results. An application of the probabilistic methodology of FEMA P-58 will be developed to evaluate the seismic performance of an old, essential category, six-story reinforced concrete building in current use as a hospital, located in Chimbote - Peru. Using the DIANA FEA software to develop calibrated structural models, non-linear time- history analyzes will be performed, obtaining the demand parameters (Drifts, displacements and accelerations). Finally, following the FEMA P-58 methodology, with the information obtained, the PACT (Performance Evaluation Calculation Tool) is used and the seismic performance measures are obtained, these results being reviewed and interpreted.
