In this thesis work, the evaluation of the electrolytic solution of alkaline copper plating, free of cyanide, based on pentasodium triphosphate is carried out; in order to apply it to the electrolytic coating of materials made of ASTM A36 steel. The aforementioned compound is used to replace sodium cyanide, which is toxic and polluting in nature, in order to ostensibly reduce the toxic and polluting environment generated by alkaline cyanide copper plating electrolytes. The theory of the chemistry of complex compounds is reviewed; to understand their behavior, against influencing factors such as temperature, pH, etc., when a complex compound is formed between copper and the triphosphate ion. Electrochemical theory is reviewed to understand the operation and dependence of the operating variables of electrolytic cells, such as current density, temperature, pH, etc. The operating conditions during electrolysis are experimentally evaluated: electrolyte concentration, current density, pH and temperature; to obtain an optimal copper coating of ASTM A36 steel. Tests are carried out with cyanide copper plating solutions; for qualitative comparison of appearance (color and adherence). It is possible to obtain the ranges of the operating variables that allow obtaining copper electrolytic coatings of acceptable quality, to continue continuing with the process sequence. It is concluded that the objective of the thesis was achieved and it is assumed that an electrolytic solution can be formulated from theoretical bases.
