Increasing the recovery factor for mature fields is a fundamental task to make oil production profitable in northwestern Peru. This is possible with the application of secondary recovery mechanisms such as water injection. But due to the high heterogeneity of the reservoir, the numerical modeling of these reservoirs is complex. On the other hand, there is no adequate sweep efficiency, due to factors such as the mobility ratio of the water with respect to oil and the areal and vertical heterogeneity of the reservoir rock. In order to develop the remaining reserves, it is necessary to represent with high precision the heterogeneity of the reservoir and the properties of fluid-rock. That is why a high- resolution numerical simulation model (10 million cells) was implemented in order to perform a production history adjustment with greater precision and forecasts adjusted to reality. Likewise, three optimal field development scenarios associated with the water injection project were evaluated. Of the three cases analyzed, Case 2 is the one that allows recovering an incremental of 3.8% and a final recovery factor of 17%. For this, only 2 of the 4 proposals must be drilled due to the structural and fluid risk associated with the proposals. An investment of 1.84 MMUSD is required for the implementation of the project, which will result in an NPV of 2.95 MMUSD with a payback of 18 months. According to the volumetric calculation of the OOIP, a volume of 36 MMSTB was obtained, the current cumulative oil production is 5171 MBO with primary reserves of 223 MBO and secondary reserves of 772 MBO.
