The present research was elaborated with the main objective of improving the reliability, maintainability and availability of road construction machinery. First, the most common critical equipment (those that drive production) was selected; and, then using historical data of time between failures and time to repair of critical equipment; with the Kolmogorov-Smirnov goodness-of-fit test that allows determining the best probabilistic distribution of failures, the optimal range of the mean time to failure (MTTF) and mean time to restore (MTTR) for various availabilities of the critical equipment of the construction machinery was determined. The methodology used in this work of professional sufficiency is the Reliability Availability Maintainability analysis (RAM) in road construction machinery. In synthesis, it consists of the capacity to predict the behavior of critical equipment, in terms of failures or repairs, useful times, planned maintenance and other activities related to the planning of the machinery, in favor of establishing concrete plans of operation and effectiveness. The main result is the calculation of reliability, maintainability and availability as indicators, with the selection of the best distributions, in order to parameterize and build prediction models, to forecast the future behavior of maintenance and operation of construction machinery, so that the best strategies, tactics and maintenance operations can be established, to achieve the proposed and desired state of success. The main conclusion is that the improvement of reliability and maintainability up to 85%, and with the analysis of the losses by incidence of failures in 01 year (2,000 Hours) for the 04 production equipment, it is concluded that, increasing the proposed preventive maintenance to the preventive maintenance according to the manufacturer, to zero failures, the company would save USD 1,305,979.15 (93.60% of annual maintenance costs). The contribution of this research is the analysis of the 8 zones that are visualized in the MTTR vs MTTF graph for various availabilities, zones that describe the possible conditions of operation, maintenance, logistics, management, production and training of maintenance personnel. Areas where it is analysed if the conditions are positive or negative, will help us to make decisions in the strategy and tactics of our maintenance management.
