The objective of this research is to study the Bio-Seismic Profile of four reinforced concrete buildings and contrast their behavior against frequent, moderate, severe, very rare and maximum earthquakes through a non-linear static analysis after their respective design with ACI318-14 and E060 standards. The Bio-Seismic Profile methodology proposes thirteen numerical indicators that evaluate parameters such as stiffness, coupling, redundancy and ductility of reinforced concrete buildings. This methodology proposes a set of ranges of values for each of these thirteen indicators. These can be classified according to the numerical value that they have as indicators with: “values within normal ranges“, “values slightly different from normal ranges“ or “values outside normal ranges“. According to the authors of this methodology, these allow predicting a “satisfactory“, “regular“ or “terrible“ behavior, respectively, of a building in the event of an earthquake. Thus, the hypothesis that to be verified in this research is that buildings with bio-seismic indicators with values within normal ranges reach adequate performance objectives against the various seismic levels proposed. In order to verify the performance achieved by the buildings, the Capacity Spectrum method embodied in the VISION 2000, ATC-40 and ASCE-SEI 41 documents is used, as well as the performance acceptance criteria that they propose and that are based on in the distortions reached by the building. Additionally, the brittleness curves of HAZUS®MH MR4 are used, which is a methodology developed by FEMA for the percentage estimation of damage to structural and non-structural components against the different seismic levels to be evaluated. As a first case study, a building belonging to category B according to E030- 18 is proposed, which has bio-seismic profile indicators with values in normal range as defined in Table 4.1. As a second case, a building that belongs to category B is used, but with bio-seismic profile indicators with values outside normal ranges. Finally, there are two additional study cases belonging to category C and A2 that generally have bio-seismic profile indicators with values within normal ranges. For the non-linear modeling of the structures, modeling was used through concentrated plastic hinges for beam-column elements. While for the nonlinear modeling of wall elements, finite modeling was used using fibers that distributes the inelasticity of the component materials of the reinforced concrete in each section of the element, requiring for this purpose the constitutive curves of the concrete and reinforcing steel. To determine the performance of the cases under study, a seismic performance matrix was built based on the performance matrices of the VISION 2000, ATC 40 and ASCE/SEI 41 documents, but adapted in such a way that it is also consistent with the philosophy and principles of earthquake resistant design of E030-2018. The results obtained from this research indicate that the buildings under study with bio-seismic indicators and values in normal ranges (Table 4.1), achieve performance objectives equal to or greater than those set out in the established performance matrix. In addition, it was determined that these buildings presented minimal damage to their structural and non-structural components according to the HAZUS®MH MR4 methodology. On the other hand, the building under study with bio-seismic indicators greater than those of the normal ranges in Table 4.1, did not achieve the performance objectives established in the performance matrix. In addition, the percentages of damage to structural and non-structural components calculated according to HAZUS®MH MR4 were excessive. Finally, the study concludes that the seismic evaluation of reinforced concrete buildings through the Bio-seismic Profile methodology allows, in a practical and simple way, to ensure a good behavior of the buildings against various seismic levels, as long as they have bio-seismic indicators. seismic with values within normal ranges and comply with the seismic-resistant normative requirements of design in reinforced concrete.
