The present investigation work have been evaluated, the removal of molybdenum and sulfates of the filtration water of the Toquepala Mining Unit tailings deposit Quebrada Honda in Tacna, used to irrigate vegetables and drink animals in the town center of Pampa Sitana, with ferric sulfate and calcium hydroxide, was done in two stages: The first was for the removal of molybdenum with ferric sulfate a pH 4.0, getting a maximum removal more than 95% reaching values of molybdenum of 0.0001 mg/L in the treated water; the second stage was for the removal of sulfate with calcium hydroxide, just to reaching a pH of 8.5, getting a removal of 75% reaching values of sulfate of 390 mg/L in the treated water, complying with the Environmental Quality Standards for category 1 and category 3 water, and the Official Chilean Standard NCH-1333 water intended for irrigation, it concludes that the treatment with ferric sulfate and calcium hydroxide give properties that permits eliminate and/or remove all the molybdenum and sulfates dissolved in water like precipitates, getting treated water with low levels of molybdenum and sulfates. I expected that, with the development of this thesis, others mining companies that have the same problems, can treat that with the criteria applied in the treatment of water with high contents of Mo and SO4-2, which will contribute to improve the quality of the surface waters of the rivers of our country.
