The present work involve an electrochemist, morphological and structural study on the electrodeposition of copper nanoparticles on FTO substrate. A SEIRAS study was also shown with the addition of urea on the copper surface. Scharifker-Hills mathematical model and Cottrell equation has been employed for testing the effect of different additives such as Polivinil Pirrolidone, sodium acetate, been 48mM of sodium acetate and 0.5 wt% of Pirrolidone the adequate proportion for a homogenous nucleation. The application of high potentials at the beginning of the electrodeposition (from -1 to -2 V) showed a decreased in the particle size and a better distribution. Trough SEM analysis was possible to determine the size distribution of the copper particles deposited, been 34 nm the smallest of all at 1wt% of Pirrolidone. Trough XRD the preferential plane (111) was found, generating a, mainly, cubic structure. After adding 20uL of urea ethanolic solution (40mM) on the FTO/Cu, the SEIRAS effect was tested in the FTO/Cu-Urea system, employing a FTIR equipment. It was shown a 12 times increase of signal (compared with the signal of FTO-urea without further modification) employing the film generated at -1V for 3 seconds, followed by -0.6V for 360 seconds (P1(3)0.6(360)) in a chemical bath of CuSO4 50 mM, 1 wt% PVP, sodium acetate 48mM and a pH of 1.6. On the other hand, the SERS effect with the same system did not show a particular effect.
