Volcan Compañía Minera SAA (Volcan) is one of the main polymetallic producers in Peru and one of the main producers of silver, lead and zinc in the world. The company's perations are carried out in the central region of the Peruvian Andes, an area with a long mining tradition, where well-known national and international companies operate. Volcan at the corporate level, has mineral reserves of 27.7 MM of MT at the end of 2020. Mining resources, in addition, are 485.5 MM of MT. This is the MAGNITUDE of MINING REATNESS that gives Volcan its reserves, resources and enormous mining potential. However, the task has not been easy; the challenges faced have been innumerable. 2013 was no exception, Volcan and the rest of the industry faced several challenges. On the one hand, the year was characterized by high volatility in metal prices caused by expectations regarding monetary policy measures in the United States, economic problems in the euro area, and the formulation of policies that sustain growth in the United States. China, which in recent years has been showing signs of slowing down. At the local level, the government gave ambiguous signals regarding the promotion of foreign investment, which generated political and social problems that prevented the materialization of large-scale private projects. Despite these difficulties, Volcan maintained its position as the leading producer of silver, lead and zinc at the national level. Being able to maintain the consolidated production of silver in Volcan above 20 million ounces. On the other hand, great efforts were made to reduce the impact of the fall in metal prices and the lower impact on the Company's results. The focus was to preserve the Company's cash flow, rationalizing investments and implementing initiatives and programs to optimize and reduce costs such as the reorganization of personnel, optimization of mining methods to improve Productivity, review of the number and scope of services. contractor companies, the renegotiation of prices of the main supplies, among others, especially in the Cerro de Pasco unit. As a result of these initiatives, it was possible to reduce the consolidated unit cost by more than 12%, going from 74.5 USD / MT in the first quarter of 2013 to 65.4 USD / MT in the fourth quarter of 2013. The Cerro de Pasco UEA is located in the department of Pasco, it is made up of the Paragsha underground mine and the Raúl Rojas open pit located in the center of the city of Cerro de Pasco, which has approximately 80,000 inhabitants. In this management of unit cost reduction, the efforts of the Cerro de Pasco UEA to reduce fixed costs after the stoppage of exploitation of the Raúl Rojas Tagus in September 2012, the reduction of underground mine production (to 11,000 tons / month in November 2012) due to a significant reduction in mineral reserves and the instability of the rock mass due to the large number of exploited areas, which led us to carry out a comprehensive geomechanical evaluation of the underground mining. From 2013 to 2015 it was determined: the most productive sectors of the underground Mine based on the availability of the mineral, especially in the main bodies of J337-A, K327-B and CNA, where the main reserves of Exploitable mineral, which are found in rock types III, IV and V. The exploitation of mineral corresponded 100% to recoveries of bridges and pillars of remaining minerals with the method of mining, cutting and filling in a semi-mechanized way (with the use of Jackleg and Scoop) with heavy hold, The need arose to increase production to improve the profitability levels of the Company, this is the reason for carrying out a reengineering in the design and execution of the mining for rock type III, IV and V in the Mine underground, starting in Corps J337-4 at level 1400. As a premise, it was considered that the only way to increase production is to apply massive mining methods, with state-of-the-art technology and highly qualified personnel, thus achieving increased productivity and reduced costs. Said work carried out is detailed in the thesis that is presented entitled: “OPTIMIZATION OF MINING IN THE PILLARS RECOVERY STAGE IN AN UNDERGROUND MINE, TO INCREASE PRODUCTIVITY“ Every Production Company seeks continuous improvement of its operations in order to optimize its processes and achieve cost reduction to guarantee the viability and permanence of the company over time. Under this criterion, the most important aspect of the operation is that which refers to Productivity with high safety standards, since it is this parameter that determines how competitive an organization is. For this research work the descriptive non-experimental method was used and as methodological design and type of research, the transactional and causal correlational respectively. Anyway, A mining sequence was generated that allowed a safer and more optimized exploitation.
