This research was developed in a section of the Madre de Dios River in the Manu province of the Madre de Dios region, corresponding to the Amazon Plain. The rare earth minerals and gold present in the fluvial deposits and mining residues were identified, the degree of freedom in which they occur was also characterized. The mineralogical composition of the fluvial deposits is related to the mineralogy of the rocks through which the rivers flow. The gold present in the quartz veins of the amphibolites of the Iscaybamba Complex and also the batholiths of Aricoma, Limbani, Coasa, and various intrusives of granitic to monzonitic composition with alkaline to peraluminous affinity (the alkaline intrusives present inclusions of rare earth minerals in quartz) are broken up and transported by the Marcapata, Inambari, Malinowsky and Colorado rivers to their mouth in the Madre de Dios River, forming placer-type deposits. To carry out the characterization, sediment samples were taken from fluvial deposits of point bars, longitudinal bars, island tails, terraces and mining residues. The samples were washed to remove very fine particles that adhere to the surface of coarser minerals, later they were concentrated by means of granulometry, gravimetry and magnetic separation (to remove magnetite). Finally, mineralogical analyzes were carried out using a stereomicroscope, polarization microscope, multi-element chemical analysis and X-ray diffractometry. The only rare earth mineral detected in this research was monazite. In sediments with granulometries less than 100 μm it is possible to find free monazite and in greater than 100 μm it is possible to find it included in quartz. The fluvial deposits with the highest total rare earth grades were the point bars (0.27%) and the island tails (0.43%), in addition, higher rare earth grades were detected in the dry season (0.37% for bars of point and 0.93% for the tails of the islands). In addition, mining residues presented total rare earth grades of 0.68%, considered profitable, which allowed to propose an ecological and profitable recovery of monazite from mining residues, recovering the environment. A profitable and ecological recovery proposal is presented with a vision of recovering land impacted by gold mining and it has been estimated that, with the purchase of concentrating machines, heavy machinery, installation expenses, operations logistics, work personnel and environmental costs It is possible to invest about $ 704,390 to work 100 tons of mining residues per day for a year and, considering the price of monazite of $ 24,300 per ton, a profit of $ 782,770 can be obtained.
