Nowadays, in the south of Peru there are located two thermal power stations which operate with dual-fuel system of energy production, these thermal power stations were built in order to avoid a future increase in electricity prices inside national territory, because of that it was necessary the creation of a pipeline that allows the transportation of gas toward these two thermal power stations (Southern Peruvian Gas Pipeline) generating electricity at a lower cost compared with the use of diesel as fuel. However, as consequence of the stoppage of the construction of the Southern Peruvian Gas Pipeline is necessary the search of an alternative that allows supply gas to these thermal power stations. Considering this scenario, this research work proposes as alternative the setting-up of a Regasification System located in the southern of Peru. For this alternative, a technical, economic and environmental study was carried out that allowed determining the pre-feasibility of this solution. The results got in this research show that the gas flow rate that should be supplied to the thermal power stations of Ilo and Puerto Bravo in order to operate steadily would be around 356,1 MMSCFD. Likewise, the chosen technology for this regasification plant is FSRU (Floating Storage and Regasification Unit) whose most suitable location would be in the district of Punta de Bombón (Arequipa). Besides, the environmental impact assessment could determine the activities related with this project that can disturb the ecosystem in order to set the respective controls for each one of them. Finally, the economic assessment displays that the proposed solution is economically viable due to it has a Net Present Value (NPV) of 2 129,2 MMUS$, an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 47 % and a Pay-Out-Time of 19 months.
