In this thesis, a methodology is proposed to simulate the indoor air quality (IAQ) in buildings in the city of Lima (Peru), using reduced scale models. The simulated variables will be the temperature and relative humidity inside the rooms, due to their high impact on the health and well-being of the occupants. To build the reduced scale models, first the physical variables related to IAQ were identified, and then Buckingham's PI Theorem was applied to obtain the scaling factors. Then, the study sample was selected and, using its thermal properties, the reduced scale models could be defined and built. After that, to validate the IAQ simulation on the reduced scale models, temperature and humidity measurements were obtained simultaneously, both in the real buildings and in their respective reduced scale models. For each variable, the statistical difference between both groups of data (real building and scale model) was calculated, which being less than the precision value of the measuring equipment used for data collection (0.5 °C for temperature and 3% for relative humidity), the IAQ simulation was considered validated. Finally, after validating the simulation method, it is explained how to use it to analyze the IAQ and compare it with the comfort regions in the city of Lima, finding the possible failures of the building. As a preliminary study, it is analyzed the improvement generated by the use of vegetation coverings on the roof of a building.
