Currently the designs of pavement structures are based on what is proposed by the AASHTO 1993 guide. However, with the Empirical Mechanistic Design Guide, important advances have been made by incorporating new concepts to characterize traffic. The proposal considers the use of load spectra substituting the Equivalent Single Axle Load (ESAL's). This research characterizes the traffic of heavy vehicles that circulate through the weighing station of the Serpentín de Pasamayo Sur. Traffic is represented by load spectra and specific traffic parameters required by the AASHTO Ware Pavement ME Design platform. The information has been obtained from the weighing station of the Serpentín de Pasamayo Sur. Work templates have been used to determine traffic parameters in a fast, secure and orderly organized way. The results obtained show the best characterization of the traffic, which reduces the margin of error.
