The Antakori project is located 50 km northwest of the city of Cajamarca and is part of the Miocene cluster of Cu-Au-Ag deposits of northern Peru. The geology consists of Cretaceous quartzites, arkoses, calcareous siltstones, and limestones of Farrat, Inca and Chulec Formation. The Cretaceous basement is intruded by numerous feldspar-hornblende±quartz porphyry dykes and stocks that have generated contact metamorphic haloes and metasomatic skarn alteration. Common skarn minerals include prograde-facies red and green garnets, pyroxene and vesuvianite, as well as very strongly developed retrograde-facies with epidote and chlorite, the latter related to main skarn mineralization with massive replacement bodies of magnetite-chalcopyrite-pyrite. Another group of feldspar-hornblende-biotite porphyries with spatially associated hydrothermal and phreatomagmatic breccias intrude the earlier skarn system and forms the typical porphyry type alteration, veins and mineralization that increase at depth. The Cretaceous sedimentary rocks are unconformably overlain by Middle Miocene pyroclastic volcanic rocks of the Calipuy Formation and are intruded by a series of co-magmatic hypabyssal feldspar-hornblende-quartz intrusive complexes. High-sulphidation style Cu-Au-Ag mineralization develops and is associated with a strong advanced argillic alteration with pyrophyllite-alunite-kaolinite. The ultimate event consists of hypabyssal rhyolitic dykes and locally developed flow-dome complexes that intrude both the Cretaceous sequences and Callipuy volcanic rocks. These intrusions and flow-dome complexes have associated intermediate sulphidation Au-Ag-Zn-Pb-Cu, “Base Metal Carbonate” with variably developed intermediate argillic alteration. A sericite-chlorite alteration associated with strong Cu-Au mineralization in forms of disseminations, veins, selvage and breccias cement of pyrite-chalcopyrite is recognized at depth in the central and northeast areas of the project and affects both feldspar-hornblende-biotite porphyries and hydrothermal-phreatomagmatic breccias. The alteration consists of texturally destructive, grey to pale green sericite, chlorite, silica and variable amounts of anhydrite that cuts all prograde and retrograde skarn facies and also overprints potassic, propylitic and sericitic alteration related to the feldspar-hornblende-biotite porphyries. This assemblage is then overprinted by the epithermal high sulphidation system with As-Sb introduction and associated advanced argillic alteration. Thin and polished sections, together with short-wave infrared hyperspectral core imaging technology show an alteration assemblage of texturally destructive muscovitic to phengitic white mica, chlorite, quartz, anhydrite and associated deposition of hypogene iron oxides magnetite-hematite (phase I) and latter pyrite-chalcopyrite-bornite (phase II), showing transitional features between potassic and phyllic alteration assemblages, with changes in pH, oxidation state and temperature of a porphyry-derived fluid. Furthermore, crosscutting relations reveal that this alteration doesn’t have genetic link with the skarn, porphyry and epithermal systems recognized before in the project, suggesting a reactivation of the hydrothermal system at Antakori that can be used as a vector for exploration
