Compliance with the requirements and demands given in the metalworking industries causes companies and / or contractors to frequently develop continuous improvement in their manufacturing and assembly processes. In addition, in order to obtain customer satisfaction, be competitive and have prestige in the market, many metalworking industries improve or implement a quality assurance and control area; a measurement management; a Project management; etc. This research seeks to study, develop and apply new alternatives for continuous improvement during the manufacture of flotation cells, implementing a qualified submerged arc welding procedure and a dimensional control method in the pre-assemblies made. Allowing to improve the manufacture of flotation cells in the metalworking industry. The welding procedure developed has as a preliminary study: the concepts of submerged arc welding (SAW), the ASME Sec. IX code and the selection of non-destructive tests. Its implementation allowed a new alternative for the butt joint of A36 steel plates with thicknesses of 6 mm or ¼ ”in a flat position. The procedure qualification (PQR) was carried out on coupons, following the guidelines of the ASME Sec. IX code and tested by the company SOLDEXA. Also, it is defined as performing the qualification of the welders and the required non-destructive tests, for the assurance of the weld. The dimensional control method has as a preliminary study: the concepts of the ISO 9001 quality standard, the specifications of dimensional tolerances considered during manufacture and the methods applied to past similar projects. The implementation of the new method allowed the assurance of dimensional control in the pre-assembly of c lls type TC5, TC10 and TC20. The improvement implemented helped to develop a new alternative in the welding process, being more efficient, ensuring that the assurance and dimensional control be effective and applied to different volumes of cells, it also avoided reprocessing and delays during the assembly of the flotation cells. This research work proposes alternatives for improvements, does not consider the required cost, the study of the advance of the schedule, the design engineering and calculation carried out by the metalworking industry.
