SO2, CO, NOX, and PM particulates are the main pollutants that impact ambient air quality and are also considered as such by MINAM. In the case of SO2, this has negative impacts not only on ambient air quality, but also on human health, responsible for illnesses such as asthma, bronchitis and respiratory failure according to MINSA reports. As a collateral, SO2 actively participates in the formation of H2SO4, an effect known as acid rain, as responsible for damage to agriculture and infrastructure such as buildings, bridges, etc. This thesis evaluates the SO2 emission factor during the combustion of domestic gasohol, using the Hilton Combustion Chamber that simulates the behavior of an internal combustion engine during fuel burning. The national gasohol is made up of a mixture of 92.2% gasoline plus 7.8% ethanol. The main objective of this Thesis is to determine the SO2 emission factor of the fleet of cars and trucks for private use that consume gasohol, circumscribed to the Lima - North area. The methodology used in this research has a quantitative approach, with an experimental design during which the data was collected. The main result obtained in this research is the determination of the SO2 emission factor during the combustion of domestic gasohol limited to the automobile and truck transport sector. This factor will serve as input for the evaluation of its impact on ambient air quality.
