The purpose of this research is to design a replacement model considering the most relevant variables for the equipment replacement decision. To reflect human thinking, qualitative variables and Mamdani fuzzy control were used to determine the replacement point. Classic models seek to reduce costs or maximize profit. Conversely, the proposed model focuses on maximizing economic benefit, by considering the operation and maintenance accounting costs and collateral costs, such as obsolescence, equipment downtime costs and expected earnings from the construction sector growth and the new projects execution. The objective of this research is to develop a multivariate replacement model by using fuzzy control, in order to maximize the economic benefit of companies in the construction sector. Considering the methodology, a quantitative approach, explanatory scope, of quasi-experimental design was applied in this research, using the scientific method to obtain new knowledge. The study determined that the proposed model presents balanced characteristics with respect to the classic replacement models: high expectation of income (77.35%), medium obsolescence (40.90%) and low costs (35.61%), replacement point according to the human reasoning (93.14%) and maximum benefit (99.99%). In conclusion, based on the results achieved, the proposed model maximizes the economic benefit to companies in the construction sector, validating the hypothesis of this report and offers an alternative solution to the replacement problem for various equipment and productive sectors due to its multiple input variables and its fuzzy control rules that provide an outcome accord to experience and expert´s common sense.
