In this professional sufficiency project, the design of a barges train is developed as an alternative to a suitable pumping system to improve the mineral processing of open-pit mining companies. The train is made up of 04 barges, each equipped with vertical turbine electric pumps, which pump water from the tailings dams to the mining companies' concentrator plant, through a system of pipes and re-pumping processes. The first improvement is oriented to the use of a floating pumping system based on the design of a barge train as a suitable alternative for the recovery of water needed for the processing of minerals from open-pit mining companies, compared to a traditional fixed pumping system. The second improvement is oriented to the operation of the system, which is subject to the optimization of the barge design, achieving in this way to improve the availability of the pump system and therefore to increase the production of the mineral processing reducing the times of plant shutdowns by works of operation and maintenance of the system. Finally, the results corresponding to the design of the barge train are analyzed to check if the hypothesis raised improves the limitations of the mining process.
