This research work covers the study of vertical press filters for mining companies and the analysis of a control system based on the differential pressure of hydraulic cylinders as a proposal to reduce the occurrence of critical failures in said equipment. In the framework of the investigation, the principle of operation of the filter presses, the operating parameters and their main components are indicated. An important part is the study of the filtering cycle and the different stages that compose it, because the components of the filter press are subject to different demands and operating conditions depending on the stage in which it is. In addition, the problematic reality presented by this equipment is described from an operation and maintenance point of view, further detailing the negative impact caused by critical failures in the equipment, the production process and the organization. It is incorporated into the analysis, the identification of the most frequent failure modes and their root cause, with a greater focus, on the failure modes that cause critical damage to the main components of the filter press, subsequently, a classification is established and a detail the consequences. Likewise, in the development of the research, the incorporation of data collection devices and field information transmission (in real time) to the program that governs the operation is evaluated (data acquisition and supervision control system - SCADA) filter press. Aligned with this objective, the feasibility of using the same data collection devices as a tool to diagnose problems in the hydraulic elements in their initial phase, for the timely preventive maintenance of the filter press, is evaluated. Based on the review of the hydraulic system of the filter press, the appropriate points for the installation of the data collection devices in the hydraulic circuit are identified, to record the hydraulic pressure, which is compared with the three remaining hydraulic cylinders, in each stage that makes up a filter cycle. Subsequently, the results of the data collection instruments are analyzed, contrasting the results of the investigation with the hypothesis formulated and assigning its validation or not. Finally, the results of the investigation are discussed and the value proposition is rescued to change the problems of the current situation. Likewise, recommendations are made to expand the control mechanisms to improve the operation and maintenance of filter presses, such as their application to other mining centers with similar filtering processes.
