The hills are ecosystems that form in much of the Peruvian coast and northern Chile. These are presented seasonally for six or eight months, precisely between May and December. Among all the existing hill formations in Peru, the Atiquipa hills, which are located in the province of Caravelí, department of Arequipa, stand out for their great extent and biodiversity, it is a natural enclave with clear evidence of the territorial transformation carried out by the man (anthropization). Within this area there are different archaeological remains left by its former occupants, such as pre-Hispanic settlements, public architecture and agricultural infrastructure that extend along all the ravines that make it up. These findings date back to pre-Hispanic times, and show us that in this place an extraordinary organization was developed and that different production systems were implemented that enabled the efficient management of natural resources. Unfortunately, overgrazing and indiscriminate logging of tree species have contributed to the collapse of the ecological system, reducing the hill ecosystem and directly affecting natural resources, which are essential for the development of the community of Atiquipa. In that context, It suggests recovering both natural and archaeological heritage. It is for this reason that the creation of a project such as the Lomas de Atiquipa Research Center is proposed, where researchers have the essential services for the development of their specialty, with the aim of supporting and executing the development of different interdisciplinary studies, oriented to education, conservation and protection of natural resources in the lomas ecosystems.
