Oil refineries expand their production due to increase of the demand. The increase in production in the refineries in turn implies that the processes and operations comply with environmental quality standards. One of the processes that generate a favorable environmental impact is the treatment of effluents from oil refineries, whose effluents are sent to marine outfalls, rivers or estuaries. The proper treatment of effluents in oil refineries depends on factors such as operating conditions, characteristics of the effluent and variations thereof, called disturbances, a part of these disturbances are caused by physical and chemical alterations of the effluent. The disturbances affect the treatment and influence both the non-compliance with environmental quality standards and permissible limits, as well as the generation of environmental damage, generating fines and economic sanctions for oil refineries by regulatory entities. To minimize the effect of disturbances, the design of an automatic compensatory control system is designed to mitigate the effect of physical-chemical disturbances until the quality parameters of the effluent output are kept within the maximum permissible limits. The results will be analyzed through the behavior of the system controlled over time, where it will be verified that the quality parameters of the final effluent are within the maximum permissible limits, thus avoiding the imposition of fines and sanctions on the refineries of Petroleum.
